 Clap Your Hands Say Yeah s/t Self-Released 2005 **** 1/2 thingees out of 5
This band is now. Right now. Two months ago they were unknown outside of NYC. Two months from now there will be backlash. So enjoy it right now, before the indie pundits come down on it. Basically, this band came out of nowhere with a shit ton of hype. The don't even have a record label. Their album is self-released. At the moment they are looking at different record labels. Oh yeah, CYHSY s/t debut is also one of the best debut albums of 2005, a year that is turning out to be a very good year for indie music.
So what does it sound like? Most people who listen to it are saying it sounds like the Talking Heads. I disagree. I guess the vocalist sounds a little like TH-ear David Byrne, but I think he sounds more like Isaac Brock strangling Bono. So what does CYHSY sound like? Well, I would say that they sound like Modest Mouse meets New Order meets The Decemberists. Which means that if you are reading this, odds are you will dig it as much as I do.
So will CYHSY change the (indie)world? No. Will this album entertain you and make you smile and want to dance and shimmy? Hell yes. SO check it out now.
Also, for extra scene points, get their album now before they sign a record deal and it gets re-issued. Cuz then everybody will know you were in on the game before they were. |
